COMPANIES:

The El Árbol es Vida project , which is an initiative whose objective is to disseminate the tree culture by planting 10 million trees in depopulated areas throughout Spain until 2015. The Consortium in charge of managing the Project is made up of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations and the Spanish Wood Foundation.

El Árbol es Vida’ was included in the last General State Budget as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest, which entails maximum tax relief through the law of patronage. Thanks to this, the actions planned in the programme will be carried out with the contribution of sponsors and donors who want to support the fight against climate change and the dissemination to society of the benefits that trees have for life, as well as consolidating a key sector for the economy and employment, creating 40,000 jobs.

This project, which is also covered by the Forestry Law, responds to the need to use wood from sustainably managed forests. In this way, it favours a sustainable economy and the trees fulfil their function of storing CO2, a natural measure to mitigate climate change. El Árbol es Vida’ will save Spain emission rights equivalent to 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 over a period of 40 years, as well as 150,000 tonnes of CO2 fixed per year. In addition, the growth in wood will be 74,000 m3/year.

This will make it possible to conclude contracts with sponsors, whose contributions will enable the development of ‘El Árbol es Vida’.

The companies that participate in this programme, in addition to materialising their environmental commitment, will be able to apply the maximum tax benefits that the law contemplates in their Corporate Tax quota, recovering up to 90% of their donation to the event through the deduction of the advertising and propaganda expenses incurred for its promotion.

In addition to the maximum tax benefits, an important advantage for companies is their compliance with Corporate Social Responsibility, and their positioning in favour of green policies. In our society, habits that are very favourable to sustainability are being established. The sensitivity of companies, institutions and individuals towards the environment is now widespread. In particular, “The Tree is Life” offers companies committed to the environment the possibility of materialising their commitment through donations. These companies can deduct 15% of the investment in communication in essential media from their corporate tax, up to a limit of 90% of the donation.

The wealth of forestry in Spain, and specifically in the province of Granada, and the entire productive sector that derives from it, requires highlighting the environmental, social and economic benefits provided by trees, wood and its by-products, while at the same time promoting new sustainable industrial developments that are key to the future.

The wood sector is present throughout the country and is the economic engine of many areas of Spain, especially in rural areas, where it helps to fix population, providing criteria for modernisation and innovation.
